Terms of Use
The same text as TERMS.md, the copy that comes with the program.
Effective October 13, 2026.
These terms are an agreement between you and TNE Enterprises LLC, a Virginia limited liability company that does business as PaperPull ("we" and "us"). They cover every edition of the PaperPull program (the desktop app, the Microsoft Store edition and PaperPull Server), the website paperpull.net, and the releases published at github.com/rheeloaded/paperpull, all called "PaperPull" below.
You accept these terms by pressing I understand when PaperPull first opens, by buying PaperPull, or by downloading, installing or using it. If you do not accept them, do not use PaperPull.
1. The license comes first
The PaperPull program is free software under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (the "AGPL"), in LICENSE. Nothing in these terms takes away a right the AGPL gives you to run, study, change or share the program, and where the two disagree about the program, the AGPL controls. Sections 8 and 9 below disclaim warranties and limit liability in addition to the AGPL's own sections 15 and 16, as section 7(a) of the AGPL allows. The PaperPull name is not part of the license, and TRADEMARK.md says how it may be used.
2. What PaperPull does
PaperPull opens the websites of banks, card issuers, stores, utilities and other providers in a browser on your own computer or your own server. You sign in yourself, in that browser. PaperPull then reads the pages your account can already see and saves the documents the provider offers there, such as statements, bills and receipts, as files you keep. It can also read those files into spreadsheets. PaperPull never asks for the passwords to your accounts, does not run on our computers, and does not send your documents or account details to us.
3. Your accounts and the providers' rules
- Use PaperPull only with accounts that are yours or that you are authorized to access.
- Each provider has its own terms for its website. Whether they allow a tool like PaperPull is a matter between you and that provider, and you are responsible for following them.
- A provider can change its website at any time, which can stop PaperPull from working with it. A provider can also limit, lock or close an account it believes an automated tool is using. We cannot prevent either, and we are not responsible for what a provider does.
- PaperPull is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any provider. Provider names are the trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which websites PaperPull works with.
4. Your records
- PaperPull saves what a provider's website offers. We do not promise that a provider offers every document you want, that PaperPull finds every document offered, or that every file it saves is complete, correct, or named and sorted correctly.
- The spreadsheets are a convenience. Where a statement prints its balances, PaperPull checks the transactions it read against them and shows any difference, but reading a PDF can still go wrong. Compare the spreadsheets with the original documents before you rely on them, and always before a tax return, a loan application or any other decision with money at stake.
- Keep your own copies of anything that matters. PaperPull is not a backup service, and a provider may stop offering older documents at any time.
- Nothing PaperPull produces is tax, financial, accounting or legal advice.
5. Keeping it secure
PaperPull keeps each provider's signed-in session in a browser profile folder on your computer or server. Anyone who can open that folder may be able to act as you on that provider's website. You are responsible for the security of the computers, folders and networks PaperPull runs on, for the password you give PaperPull Server, and for keeping PaperPull Server off the open internet. Never share a browser profile folder or an unredacted statement, and look over a support report before you post it.
6. Privacy
The program sends nothing to us. PRIVACY.md says what the program contacts and keeps, PRIVACY-SERVER.md does the same for PaperPull Server, and the privacy page at paperpull.net/privacy.html covers the website.
7. Buying and supporting PaperPull
- The Microsoft Store edition is the same free program, sold through the Microsoft Store as an easy way to install it and to support the project. Microsoft takes the payment, and Microsoft's own terms of sale and refund policies apply to the purchase. These terms are the Store edition's license terms, in place of Microsoft's Standard Application License Terms.
- Payments through GitHub Sponsors or Ko-fi are voluntary gifts. They do not buy support, features or any other service.
8. No warranty
PAPERPULL IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE AND THE PAPERPULL CONTRIBUTORS DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, QUIET ENJOYMENT AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT PAPERPULL WILL WORK WITH ANY PROVIDER, FIND OR SAVE ANY DOCUMENT, READ ANY DOCUMENT CORRECTLY, OR RUN WITHOUT ERROR OR INTERRUPTION. YOU USE PAPERPULL AT YOUR OWN RISK.
9. Limits on liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, NEITHER WE, NOR OUR MEMBERS, MANAGERS OR EMPLOYEES, NOR THE PAPERPULL CONTRIBUTORS WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST, CORRUPTED OR MISREAD DATA OR DOCUMENTS, A LIMITED, LOCKED OR CLOSED ACCOUNT, TAX PENALTIES OR INTEREST, LOST PROFITS, OR THE COST OF SUBSTITUTE GOODS OR SERVICES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO PAPERPULL OR THESE TERMS, HOWEVER CAUSED AND UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF TOLD THAT SUCH DAMAGES WERE POSSIBLE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO PAPERPULL OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR PAPERPULL IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE AND TEN U.S. DOLLARS.
Some places do not allow these exclusions or limits, so they apply to you only as far as your law allows.
10. If you misuse PaperPull
If you use PaperPull with an account you are not authorized to access, or in a way that breaks the law, and someone brings a claim against us because of it, you will pay our reasonable costs of that claim, including reasonable attorneys' fees.
11. Virginia law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and of the United States, without regard to rules about conflicts of laws. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. A dispute that goes to court will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Virginia, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction. If the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your own courts or under your own law, these terms do not take that right away.
12. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and the control panel asks you to accept them again when they do. A change applies from that date, and never to a dispute that began before it.
13. The rest
If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term, we have not given it up. These terms, the AGPL and the privacy pages are the whole agreement between you and us about PaperPull. Questions about these terms go to support@paperpull.net.
A note for providers
PaperPull is made for people collecting their own records. It works only through a browser its user signs into, it reads only what that signed-in user can already see, and it stops at every sign-in step and security check for the user to handle. It never stores account passwords, never answers a check for the user, and never moves money or changes anything in an account.
If you run a website PaperPull works with and object to it, write to support@paperpull.net from your company's domain and say which app. We will take that app out of the next release and off paperpull.net, and tell you when it is done.
